Attention-getting nonsense is not good advertising.
It shows up every day on your feed, your TV screen, on billboards, weird, goofy shit for brands that try desperately to get your attention.
Yes, it’s harder than EVER to get people’s attention. And boring smartness certainly is not the answer. But in a frantic grasp for attention, many brands lose the fact it that a communication still needs a message.
Attention alone doesn’t deliver a sale. Motivation does.
For me, a lot of this stuff is the equivalent of the streaker who runs onto the field at a major sporting event. Surely it gets attention, but to what point? And what does it say about you?
Those desperately seeking attention…we usually don’t like them.
