There’s only one thing worse than overthinking: underthinking
“Overthinking” has a gotten a bad rap. Sometimes for justifiable reasons. Like when we spend too much time focused on minutia that doesn’t matter, that will have little effect on the end product.
But tenaciously trying to make something better, never being satisfied, turning it over and over, exploring every angle, trying every joke, tweaking every part of the design, knowing you exhausted every possibility right up until the very last second, so no choice has been overlooked…that is what makes greatness.
It sucks seeing something you produced and, after the fact, thinking why didn’t I do X, or I should’ve done Y. Thinking about it incessantly before making it eliminates many of those creative regrets.
If that’s considered overthinking, then I think I’ll do it.
