I have intense respect for deadlines and budgets. They dictate my life’s work. That said, one thing supersedes them both: quality.
• Deadlines are important to adhere to, but not if it means creating something of lower quality because of time. Budgets are important to stay within, but being on budget and creating sub-par work is never the goal.
• Quality should drive both. The people leading the work should understand this. And the people creating the work should respect this and create to budget and timeline. Don’t try to do $1,000 ideas for 100 bucks. Don’t try to jam jobs that should take two months into two weeks.
• When the works turns out crappy, no one remembers you were on time and on budget. They remember how much they dislike the end product…every time they see it.
